World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed every year on 31st May around the world. Also, this celebration helps to protect future generations from tobacco and aware of the right to health and healthy living.

World No Tobacco Day was created in 1987 by the Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of the harms caused due to tobacco products to public health and the environment and give global attention to the death and disease as a result of the tobacco epidemic.

As per the history of World No Tobacco Day, in 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38 and requested to call April 7th, 1988, World No-Smoking Day. Later, in 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed and invited to global communities for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day on 31st May every year.

Currently, more than 8 million deaths are happened every year around the world due to the use of tobacco, including 1.2 million non-smokers as a result of exposure to second-hand smoke. So, World No Tobacco Day highlights the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and its' negative health effects.
