Description :

The Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War is an annual international day of remembrance. This time begins on May 8 and ends on May 9. May 8 was the anniversary of the date when the Second World War Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich.

This day was designated by Resolution 59/26 of the United Nations General Assembly on November 22, 2004. The resolution inspirits all related parties of the United Nations, such as the Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to pay tribute to the victims of the Second World War. The General Assembly invited them to observe annually either one or both of these days in an appropriate manner to pay tribute to all victims of the Second World War on March 2, 2010, by resolution 64/257.
