Kithal Ella - A hidden waterfall from the public eye in Ella, Sri Lanka

Kithal Ella is located in the Badulla District and is 23 meters high. This is a wonderful place for adventure seekers and nature lovers. Surrounding Kithal Ella is a haven for biodiversity. Generally, this waterfall is considered the real Ravana Ella due to its proximity to the Ravana Cave.
Kithal Ella can be accessed only via the railway, which passes over the famous Nine-Arch Bridge. To reach this waterfall, travelers should walk about 200 meters toward Ella from the Kithal Ella Railway Station. Otherwise, travelers can walk about 2.6 km along the rail track from the Ella Railway Station. Kithal Ella Railway Station is situated before the Ella Railway Station and after the Heel Oya Railway Station. Here, travelers can see the old black rail bridge. To reach the top of the waterfall, travelers need to walk several hundred meters along footpaths from the black bridge.
Also, if travelers access Kithalella Road from Ella junction and travel along this road for around 1-2 km, they can see this waterfall on the left. This road connects to Bandarawela.
During the rainy season, the waterfall cascades spectacularly down in rhythm. But, it dries up leaving a small stream of water in the dry season. Hence, the best time to visit Kithal Ella is during the monsoon season, which is between October and December. During this period, its water flow is at its peak. However, travelers can visit the waterfall at all times of the year.
