Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista ousted by Castro-led revolution

Fulgencio Batista, the dictator of Cuba, was expelled by the revolution led by Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement on 1st January 1959. Batista fled the country in response to the revolution. Here, Batista and a number of his supporters fled Cuba for the Dominican Republic. Tens of thousands of Cubans celebrated the end of the dictator’s regime. Also, supporters of Castro established their power quickly. Judge Manuel Urrutia was named as provisional president and Castro and his supporters triumphantly entered the capital of Cuba, Havana on 7th January 1959.
